Teen Wheel and Handbuilding
Ages 10-14
Don’t tell 5-9 but this is our favorite class. Kid spirit with adult motor skills. Not to mention better behavior. 10-14 is kind of an advanced kids class. In small groups we will teach skills and techniques that an older group can respect and take pride in. It’s great.
In this multi-week program students will learn wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques from our experienced instructors. Students will learn to center and throw on the wheel, and how to prepare clay for the wheel and handbuilding. They will learn how to use the slab roller, the extruder and how to glaze their work. Students will create several pieces over the course of the semester and will participate in group discussions about the process of making, and the history of ceramics and its context in various cultures. We facilitate process-based learning: we encourage kids and parents to focus on process and experimentation over finished product.
No classes during Indigenous People’s Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving.
